GINA WILSON, Assistant Coach
Where were you born?: Burlingame, CA
Please highlight your volleyball playing experience, if any: I played volleyball all throughout grammer school and high school as a setter. In college, I played for local teams.
Please highlight your volleyball coaching experience: I have coached JV and Varsity teams at a local grammar school (7th and 8th grade levels). I was also the setter coach
What is your education background?: I went to Mercy High School in Burlingame. After that I attended the
Florida Institute of Technology where I received my B.S. in
Interdisciplinary Science, with a focus in marine geology.
Is there any other personal experiences, or training, that you feel makes you a better coach?: I have worked with juniors most of my life. The more time I spend
working with this age group, the better I am at understanding and
relating to them. I also have had some amazing coaches. Keeping the
values and skills they taught me while looking to them as role models
definitely makes me a better coach.
What personal philosophy sitcks out the most when it comes to coaching junior club volleyball?: I would have to say fun, patience, and hard work. Most important is that
playing volleyball is fun for the girls and coaching it is fun for the
coaches. Patience is key as well. When starting a new team or adding a
new coach, it takes time for everyone to come together and work together
as a group. Learning new skills takes time to master as well. But with
hard work and patience, I believe any goal can be achieved.
What is your favorite experience with the sport of vollebyall?: One of the girls I coached in grammar school asked me to work with
privately, as she really wanted to make her high school team. She made
it and played all four years. Her senior year of high school, she asked
me to work with her a little more because there were scouts from
colleges coming to see her play. She ended getting a volleyball
scholarship. I was so excited for her and glad I could help out.
What are you currently doing if you are not coaching volleyball?: I am currently working as an environmental scientist.
What is something unique about yourself that you would like to share? I really like sports, all kinds of sports. In addition to volleyball, I
play softball, go hang gliding, and like to watch football.
