TRACI NOWAKOWSKI, Head Coach

Where were you born?:  Redwood City, California

Please highlight your volleyball playing experience, if any: I played volleyball in middle school and at Notre Dame High School, where I played JV for 2 years and Varsity for 2 years-all four years as Captain.  I played 6 years of club volleyball for Quake City and 1 year with Peninsula Juniors.  I started on a 12's Area team, but played Power for the other six years.  I chose not to play in college, however, I could not stay away from volleyball so played in recreational leagues, as well as intramural sports.

Please highlight your volleyball coaching experience:  This was my first year coaching 6th grade volleyball at Abbott Middle School, and this will be my first time coaching girls junior club volleyball.

Please list any award, or championships, you received as either a player or a coach:  I received the MVP award my sophmore year on Junior Varsity, and received the Coaches Award both my junior and senior years on Varsity.

What is your education background?:  I graduated from Notre Dame Belmont High School in 2005.  I continued my education at California State University Long Beach where I graduated with a BA in Liberal Studies.  Also, I graduated with a Preliminary Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, and Level 1 Education Specialist Instruction Credential for children with Moderate/Severe Disabilities.

Is there any other personal experiences, or training, that you feel makes you a better coach?:  Coaching is very similar to teaching.  When teaching, you have to plan, evaluate, re-assess, and reflect, and also you can work individually, in small groups, or in a whole group.  The same is true for coaching.  Working in a classroom has taught me how to work with diverse children and their individual needs.  This will help me when coaching because not everyone learns the same way, and as a coach I hope to see individual and team growth by the end of a season.

What personal philosophy sitcks out the most when it comes to coaching junior club volleyball?:  I think that it is important to remember that mistakes happen, but it's how we learn from our mistakes that will make us a better player and person.

What is your favorite experience with the sport of vollebyall?:  My favorite experience with the sport of volleyball is digging the other team's best hitter, and knowing the girl will not get another ball past me for the rest of the match.

What are you currently doing if you are not coaching volleyball?:  When I am not coaching volleyball, I teach a Mild/Moderate Special Day Class for 6th and 7th grade at Abbott Middle School, where I work with children with special needs.  I also love to travel, go to concerts, read a good book and go on outdoor adventures.

BAILEY KORDIC, Assistant Coach

Where were you born?:  Mission Viejo, CA

Please highlight your volleyball playing experience, if any: I played 4 years at California High School in San Ramon, played club volleyball at Iron Horse and East Bay Connection in the East Bay.  I also played intramural at California State Long Beach.

Please highlight your volleyball coaching experience: No previous coaching experience other than helping my younger sisters (one who is Libero at Sacramento State and one who is now coaching for NorCal in Pleasanton).

Please list any award, or championships, you received as either a player or a coach:  I received the Coaches Award my sophmore year for volleyball and the swim team.

What is your education background?:  I went to California High School in San Ramon, and graduated with a Business degree from California State Long Beach in 2009.

Is there any other personal experiences, or training, that you feel makes you a better coach?:  I coached swimming for 7 years through high school and college.  I watched my younger sisters who were very involved in volleyball so I have been playing and watching for over 10 years.

What personal philosophy sitcks out the most when it comes to coaching junior club volleyball?:  Have fun, develop a passion and learn the skills that can carry players through a successful volleyball career.

What is your favorite experience with the sport of vollebyall?:  Either going to Davis Festival in 2002 with East Bay Connection or watching my sister's game at Sacramento State this season where they are currently ranked #1 in the Big Sky Conference.

What are you currently doing if you are not coaching volleyball?:  I work at a digital advertising company (PRN) in San Francisco where I am a Sales Coordinator.  I recently started running over 20 miles a week.  I love scrapbooking and sewing.  One of my favorite weekend activities is playing cards and games with my mom, dad and sisters.
